Role as a Prophet

Christians shares the Kingly, Priestly and Prophetic role of Christ. By being a priest we are to be a vessel of holiness and an example for others to follow in Christ, while being a king we are to be a good leader and provider for a world in need of direction. The prophetic role on other hand drives us to be the voice of truth in the world of lies.

Reflecting further on our role as a prophet reaffirms us that we have to tell the truth about Christ. There will be times when we will be put in very uncomfortable situations and we need to stand up on what we believe in. We cannot be just someone who wants to please everybody. There are opportunities were we can actually proclaim the greatness of God through our actions but at times we shrink, “we don’t want to rock the boat,” because we are afraid to:

1.    Lose power
2.    Lose money
3.    Lose friends

Confronted with the possibility of losing power, thereby losing influence, we shrink. Overcome with greed for more, we cling on to money and the possibility of losing it makes us a coward. Fearful of losing friends we choose to be silent for the sake of peace.

But being a prophet means to be true to who we are. Deep within us, is always that desire to do something good. It is wired in us. From the beginning we were created to be good and thereby to do good for others. We can never be other than that. So we have to summon all courage in us so the goodness can come out and overcome the evil in us. When we will be in position of power, we will be in the best position to affect change for good and we will have the ears of the people to listen for what is true. When we will have money we will have every opportunity to help those in need. When we will lose friends we will actually find the real ones. Real friends are honest to each other.

Lord, grant us the courage to be the voice of truth in the world of lies. Amen.
