I was listening to one priest who
was reflecting on the Ascension of Jesus. We wonder somehow why Jesus would
have to leave and yet the gospel still needs to be proclaimed. For sure the
message can be well proclaimed with Him at the forefront, however He chooses
not to. He wants us to be at the forefront while He takes the background. He
trusted us the kingdom. That’s an awesome task! But I think more than trusting
us the kingdom; it was more of a long-term plan of His. See, with Him physically
with us all the time, we will not grow, we will only depend on Him. (Of course we still depend on everything in
Him, but in a different context) However with Him gone, we learn to be
independent in one way or another. We mature in this way, we learn the ins and
outs of life and our love relationship with Him takes a new meaning.
It is in letting go that we
can grow. Without letting go there is no maturity.
