What Will We Choose?

The gospel reading for Holy Tuesday was taken John 13:21-33, 36-38. It tells the story of Jesus predicting the betrayal of Judas, the denial and abandonment of Peter and in fact if we go further with the story, most of them abandoned him.

I cannot imagine enough the pain of being betrayed, denied and abandoned. I think this is worst than crucifixion itself. Nothing can be crueler than being betrayed, denied and abandoned by the person you love the most. Can there be worst situation than these happening at the very moment of in dire need? Truly we will know our real friends when dark night of trials comes.

The good thing about God is that even in the darkest nights of betrayal, denial and abandonment, He can still turn it into an opportunity to choose what is good. Jesus chose to continue the mission. He chose to love. In that same night, Jesus turned betrayal, denial and abandonment into salvation.

Judas and Peter both made mistakes, the first chose to wallow in despair while Peter chose to repent. What about us, what will we choose?
