John
18:38
Therefore Pilate said to Him,
"So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I
am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world,
to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." Pilate
said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out
again to the Jews and said to them, "I find no guilt in Him. "But you
have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then
that I release for you the King of the Jews?" John 18:37-39
What is truth really? For Jesus it
was very clear, truth is Himself. His person is the embodiment of truth. Pilate
having experienced all the worldly things knew that in the world, truth could
be relative and so he asked what is truth for you? But Jesus stood His ground,
His silence after the question speaks louder on the truth that He just said. It
might be hard to swallow, but it is the truth. Either Pilate have to believe
Him or not, nothing in between.
Today the challenge is to be the
truth in the world of lies. Can we stand on the truth? Will our words and
actions stand amidst all the questioning and doubts of others? Truth is truth,
it cannot be relative or else it is no truth at all. It is refreshing to meet
someone who embodies truth.
Lord, grant us the grace to always
stand on the side of truth. Amen.
