The Dog and I

I was preparing some food and the dog keep on following me in the kitchen up to the dining table. The dog looks up intently with its eyes begging for some food. I got irritated at some point but my heart pointed me to something about this situation. It tells me “You see how pitiful the sight of a begging dog, what if you were a dog?”

Two things came into my mind.

First, when it comes to love, we are not comfortable at the sight of someone begging for it. We want it reciprocated, or at the very least, we want someone’s effort to be honored and respected. Love is not begged because it is freely given. That is why unrequited love is most painful.

Second, if I am a dog begging for crumbs from the Lord, the Lord will look at me and offer me not just crumbs but a feast! He will tell me, “Come stop thinking that you are a dog, you are my beloved whom I want to be with. Stop begging because even before you ask, I am already offering.”
